Community Safety Data

Data from the UC campuses is available through the following dashboards compiled by UCOP.

PAB Database

Accountability and transparency are important values not only for law enforcement, but also for civilian oversight of law enforcement. The UC Santa Cruz Police Accountability Board (PAB) Database includes the following information on all inquiries received by the PAB:

  • Report date
  • Method of filing
  • Complainant demographics (when provided)
  • Allegations
  • Case status
  • Outcome
  • When a formal investigation was charged:
    • Investigator’s findings
    • PAB’s findings and recommendations
    • Chief of Police’s responses to the PAB’s findings and recommendations

This database will be updated periodically as new inquiries are received and as cases move through our pipeline. Should you have any questions, or if you would like to provide feedback on the database, please contact us at pab@ucsc.edu.

PAB Annual Report

Dear Campus Community,

I apologize for any confusion created by the original issuance of the PAB Annual Report. The text of the report may have implied that the PAB members reviewed the complaints of police misconduct the University received. Complaints of alleged police misconduct are reviewed and assessed by Equity and Equal Protection (EEP) to determine if an investigation is warranted and/or possible.

The PAB members did not review the complaints listed in this annual report. PAB members do not  receive or review  complaints and they are never responsible for rejecting or accepting complaints  for investigation.

In the event the University investigates a complaint of police misconduct, the PAB is responsible for reviewing the completed, redacted investigative report in order to make recommendations to the Chief of Police about factual findings from the investigation. You can review the full PAB procedures online.

Prior to the existence of the PAB, all complaints  and related investigations occurred within the police department. A major reason for the existence of the PAB and the PAB Administrative Advisory Board is to provide an external process for investigation of complaints.

The annual report was created by the PAB Administrative Advisory Committee primarily utilizing information already publicly available on the PAB website. However, the original report did not benefit from review by PAB members. The reissued report will be updated with their feedback in addition to the clarifications described above.

Sincerely,

Anna Finn, Associate Chancellor and Chief of Staff

On behalf of the PAB Administrative Advisory Committee

The UC Santa Cruz Accountability Board shall issue an annual, public report detailing summary information and statistical data regarding the number of complaints filed, the type of complaints filed, analysis of trends or patterns, the ultimate disposition of the complaints (sustained, not sustained, exonerated or unfounded) and the percentage of complaints in which the recommendations of the PAB were either accepted, rejected or modified by the Chief of Police.
